Jerry Douthit and Troy Simmons founded JD’s Glassworks on June 1, 1985.  They operated out of Jerry’s basement for nine months, hiring two part-time glaziers and one full-time putty person.

JD’s Glassworks moved into a 2000 sq. ft. Building in February 1986 and over the course of the year added Associates as needed.  The partnership was dissolved in April 1986 leaving Jerry Douthit 100% owner of the company.  JD’s ended the year with nine Associates.

JD’s Glassworks, Inc. was incorporated on December 31, 1986.

JD’s purchased .70 acres on Canton Highway and over the next six months built a 9000 square foot facility.  Associates were added to the company as needed and by the time the move to the new location occurred there were thirteen full-time Associates on roll.

In December of 1988, JD’s expanded its millwork operation by moving it to its own location on Ecton Drive.  The new corporation was known as Quality Millworks, Inc.  During the year of 1989 both companies reached a sales level of over two million dollars.

On March 1, 1990, Quality Millworks, Inc. was merged with JD’s Glassworks, Inc. and the remaining Associates were relocated from Ecton Drive to the JD’s Glassworks facility.

In December 1993, JD’s Glassworks relocated to 2100 Barrett Park Drive, Suite 501, Kennesaw, Georgia.   This new location had over 20,000 sq. ft. to accommodate a fully integrated production facility including both Millwork and Leaded Glass operations as well as providing for an expansive two-story showroom, designed for customer comfort and convenience in making their decorative door and window purchase.

In October of 1997, JD’s expanded its presence by opening a second showroom location at 470 South Atlanta Street in the Barrington Square shopping center in Roswell, GA.
